Ivy Blair

Director of Music Education, Co-Owner

About Ivy

  • Piano

    With 30+ years of experience, Ivy’s piano students have competed on national levels, and consistently receive college scholarships.

  • Voice

    From Classical to Pop, Ivy’s vocal diagnostics have earned her teacher of the year 2 times. Her students have performed at Carniegie Hall.

  • Education

    Ivy studied vocal performance at University of Texas (El Paso), East Tennessee State University, and Salem College. She is certified in Alexander Technique and Creative Childhood Education.

  • Personality

    Ivy and is warm and encouraging. She challenges her students with an unwavering but loving hand. College and audition prep is her specialty and passion.

Daniel Blair

Director of Strings,

Academy Administrator, Co-Owner

About Daniel

  • Classical Violin

    Beginning his studies at age 7, Daniel’s professional debut occurred at 13 when he performed Vivaldi’s Concerto for 4 violins with the Symphony of the Mountains Orchestra

  • Mini-Musicians

    Daniel enjoys creating programs geared towards children ages 2-5 who can build a foundation of skill in music while crafting early memories of happy, positive performances

  • Performing

    Daniel is an active performer both live (DanielBlairLive.com) and on YouTube. He has performed with Eddie Money, Marc O’Connor, Chris Tomlin and has entertained many celebrities and political figures.

  • Personality

    Energetic, creative and unpredictable. Daniel loves surprising his students with modern music, studio recording opportunities and filmmaking. In 2014 he married his long-time girlfriend, Emily.


Margo Crowder

Piano Instructor, Voice Instructor, Accompianist

About Margo

  • Piano

    Margo studied piano at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania where she received her B.A. in Music Education.

  • Voice

    With experience in private academies and public schools, Margo loves working with high school choirs and musical productions.

  • Accompanying

    Margo frequently accompanies area university students at auditions and competitions. We are fortunate to have her expert services available to our students at Blair Academy.

  • Personality

    Vibrant and friendly, Margo has knack for mixing it up and keeping students engaged. She loves to read, hike, be outdoors and fully appreciates an exquisite coffee.

TJ West

Guitar Instructor,
Bass Instructor

About TJ

  • Guitar

    TJ enjoys all styles of guitar from Bach to Flamenco and has experience in soloing as well as in bands. He served as principle guitarist for the ETSU Jazz Ensemble.

  • Bass

    His skillset reaches from shredding electric guitar solos to intricate Bach arpeggios. TJ even includes Bass in his repertoire to help develop the complete guitarist.

  • Education

    Tj has completed his Bachelor of Music degree concentrating on classical guitar performance at ETSU. He is currently pursuing his Masters Degree

  • Personality

    Upbeat, relaxed and entertaining. TJ began playing guitar in 8th grade and enjoys showing others how to fully commit and progress in a short amount of time.

Audrey Altonen

Cello Instructor,
Ensemble Coach

About Audrey

  • Cello

    Audrey is an active performer and composer having completed her B.A. in Music Education at East Tennessee State University.

  • Ensemble

    A lover of all forms of music, Audrey also volunteers her time as a performer and professional mentor in the East TN Cello Choir.

  • Performing

    Audrey has held a position in the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and the Milligan Orchestra, as principal cellist, since 2012.

  • Personality

    Gentle, nurturing and patient. Audrey enjoys arranging and has transcribed several pieces from television, video games, and film for solo cello and cello ensemble.
